Manchester, 9 January 2012 – Gazprom Energy is delighted to announce that it has recently signed a significant embedded generation deal with the Infinis group (Infinis), one of the UK’s leading generators of renewable power.
Beginning in April 2012, the twelve month contract is Gazprom Energy’s first with Infinis. Under the power purchase agreement (PPA), a total of 16MW of power will be delivered to Gazprom Energy from 23 of Infinis’ landfill gas (LFG) sites across the UK.
In the year to 31 March 2011 Infinis generated approximately 10% of the UK’s renewable power from a total of 140 embedded generation sites. The majority of these are LFG sites where LFG is extracted from landfills and used to generate renewable power.
On signing the deal, Andrew Morris, Head of Structured Markets for Gazprom Energy commented: “Our generation business is fairly new but we’re quickly becoming a major player in this market thanks to our flexible contract options and award-winning customer service. This contract is especially significant because of Infinis’ presence and experience in the market.”
Steve Armitage, Gazprom Energy’s Global Head of Power added: “2011 was an important year for Gazprom Energy’s power division and we now have the foundations and resources to become a leading provider of services within this sector of the energy market, both here in the UK and across Europe.”
