Gazprom Marketing and Trading (GM&T), is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tony West as Power Strategy Manger with immediate effect. Tony will be based in London reporting directly to Keith Martin, Executive Director of Global Gas, Power & Downstream for GM&T, leading a team responsible for delivering a global integrated power strategy.
Tony joins GM&T from Scottish Power, where he managed the commodity market risks within their Energy Management division. He brings with him extensive power and energy industry knowledge built up over many years, working at a senior level throughout the value chain with fully integrated utilities as well as trading organisations

Prior to joining Scottish Power, Tony worked at Sapient as Director of Business Consulting within their Trading and Risk Management practice. He has also held front office trading and senior management positions at National Power/Innogy/RWE, BP, Vanol, JP Morgan and Standard Chartered. Tony has also advised commodity hedge funds on energy trading opportunities and provided Expert Opinion in legal disputes.
Tony West
Dr. Tony West has over 25 years experience in the energy and power industry.
Tony was formally Head of Trading for Scottish Power based in Glasgow. Prior to joining Scottish Power, he worked at Sapient as Director of Business Consulting within the Trading and Risk Management practice; utilising his extensive energy trading and commodity derivatives experience across a wide range of commodities.
Tony has worked in a variety of institutions at a senior level including a major oil company, top tier investment banks, a leading utility and hedge fund/trading businesses. He has worked across the globe including Europe, Far East, USA and parts of Africa.
Previous roles included front office trading positions at BP, Vanol, JP Morgan and Standard Chartered prior to holding senior front office management positions with accountability for trading and marketing at National Power/Innogy/RWE. Tony has also worked with and advised commodity hedge funds on energy trading opportunities and provided Expert Opinion in legal disputes.
Tony, as well as establishing National Power’s/Innogy’s trading business, was instrumental in the development of the utility’s internal market/asset backed trading model. Tony conceived and led the introduction of many new innovative B2B risk management product offerings; one such campaign was specifically recognised in the Utility Week Industry Achievement Awards, Marketing Initiative of the Year. He also created and managed the Global Commodity Markets fund within the Global Asset Management, Alternative Investment division of a top-tier investment bank.
Tony has first hand commodity trading and risk experience in physical, asset-backed and derivative markets: including gas, power, coal, emissions crude oil, petroleum products and some experience with freight, weather, base metals and softs.
