From its origins as the UK office of Gazprom in 1999, GM&T has built a substantial presence in London as a global trader and a reputation as a marketer of energy solutions that are second to none. The timeline below shows how we have achieved so much over such a short period of time

1999

OAO Gazprom opens its first UK office in Richmond, south west London, demonstrating Gazprom’s intent to optimize Gazprom Export’s portfolio in liberalised markets. Gazprom UK Trading Ltd starts with only two members of staff.

2000

Gazprom UK Trading Ltd becomes responsible for managing Gazprom’s 10 per cent stake in the Interconnector, a sub-sea gas pipeline providing a two way link between the UK and continental European energy markets via the North Sea.

2001

Gazprom UK Trading Ltd is granted a shipping licence for the NTS (National Transmission System) – a network of gas pipelines throughout the UK supplying 40 power stations via coastal gas terminals.

2002

Gazprom UK Trading Ltd markets gas on the UK’s NBP (National Balancing Point) – a virtual trading location for the sale and purchase of natural gas and the most liquid gas trading point in Europe.

2003

Gazprom UK Trading becomes a Zeebrugge member. This gives the company access to the Zeebrugge Hub – the natural gas trading point in Belgium – via the company’s share of the Interconnector between Zeebrugge and the Bacton terminal in England.

2004

The UK-based energy trading company Gazprom UK Trading Ltd is renamed as Gazprom Marketing and Trading, creating the GM&T brand name.

2005

GM&T becomes a GTS shipper and enters the Dutch TTF market, a key European gas trading hub that allows traders to transfer gas already present in the GTS system to another party.

2006

GM&T concludes first direct gas sales to end user markets in France and signs up to trade at the German EGT hub.

GM&T commences UK power trading and makes its first carbon trade.

GM&T delivers LNG spot cargo to Chubu Electric Power Co. inc., in Japan and incorporates subsidiaries in USA and France.

2007

GM&T enters Europe’s biggest power market Germany, and joins France’s Powernext SA day-ahead electricity market.

GM&T signs a six year agreement with Propower do Brasil to acquire Carbon Emission Reduction credits awarded to Propower’s renewable energy biomass power generation plant under the Kyoto Clean Development Mechanism.

GM&T acquires Natural Gas Shipping Services, giving the company a platform to continue growing a strong retail customer base in the deregulated UK market.

GM&T establishes a strategic plan for North America and opens Houston, Texas office.

2008

GM&T concludes its first Russian/Japanese transaction of forward delivered carbon credits (Certified Emissions Reduction units - CERs) under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol with Marubeni Corporation.

GM&T takes an equity stake in leading automated meter reading supplier TruRead enabling meters for gas, electricity, water and other commodities to be read remotely and data transferred without human intervention.

GM&T and Rabaska reach agreement on North American LNG Terminal under which GMTUSA becomes an equity partner in the proposed Rabaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification project and contract for 100 per cent of the import terminal's capacity.

GM&T conducts its first CER (Certified Emissions Reductions) trade on Nord Pool - a further development of our carbon trading activities. GM&T also conducted its first CER Futures trades on ECX, allowing for the hedging of primary CERs and providing a mechanism for executing EUA/CER swaps.

GM&T and Gas Natural SDG S.A. sign a framework agreement for potential short-term LNG supply.

GM&T signs contract to buy 0.5 million tons of LNG from Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company Ltd. The first cargo departed Das Island (Abu Dhabi) on board the LNG carrier "Energy Advance" for delivery to Japan.

GM&T becomes the first company to trade on the new Powernext Gas exchange in Paris.

GM&T and Marubeni Corporation launch cooperation agreement to provide a secured route for the sale of Emission Reduction Units (ERUs) to the Japanese emissions market. The structured agreement builds on existing trading relations with Marubeni and utilizes Marubeni's status as Japan's exclusive supplier of offset credits to their national government.

2009

Gazprom Global LNG Ships its First Russian LNG Cargo to India. The cargo was sold to Total Gas & Power and discharged at the Hazira regasification terminal.

GM&T and Marubeni Sign Exclusive Carbon Emission Reduction Agreement for the Japanese Market, bringing together GM&T leading carbon sourcing and marketing advantage with Marubeni’s extensive access to the Japanese carbon market.

GM&T and Dow Sign MOU to Explore Global Carbon Reduction Projects. Both companies will work together to identify projects that could cumulatively reduce millions of tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

GM&T USA, Inc. begins trading and marketing of natural gas in North America, marking the first entry by a Gazprom Group company in the United States.

GM&T and EDF Trading Announce Trans-Atlantic Gas Swap. A five-year agreement will expand geographies and sourcing for both companies.

GM&T and ecolutions Trading GmbH (ecolutions), announce a cooperation agreement relating to the development of emissions reduction projects in China.

GM&T and Siemens sign a memorandum of understanding to co-operate in developing global Energy Metering Solutions within the Gas, Power and Water industries. The agreement provides GM&T’s affiliated company TruRead Ltd. with enhanced capability to market its advanced Automated Meter Reading technologies to the global gas industry.

GM&T USA and Statoil ASA sign a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding for the finalization of a series of separate, mutually beneficial agreements including regasification capacity at the Cove Point, Maryland receiving terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG), gas sales in the USA and LNG imports to the USA.

2010

GM&T opens a new office in Singapore to further diversify and extend the existing offering to Asia-Pacific, one of the major global hubs in commodities trading. The new office will initially focus on global liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping and trading, as well as portfolio development and carbon credit origination projects.

Gazprom Global LNG to send supplies to Sempra LNG’s Cameron LNG Terminal in Lake Charles, La., near the U.S. Gulf Coast. The agreement provides GGLNG with another route to supply the United States with LNG from its growing portfolio and provides the Cameron LNG terminal with natural gas for the U.S. Gulf Coast and East Coast.

GGLNG Shipping receives approval from Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance that its Quality Management System complies with the ISO 9001:2008 requirements.

GM&T acquires remaining stake in the UK automated meter reading (AMR) services company, TruRead Limited, following an earlier acquisition of a 30% stake in March 2008. This strengthens TruRead's proposition as an innovative end-to-end smart energy management provider to suppliers and end customers worldwide, and enhances GM&T’s portfolio of efficient, integrated energy solutions.

GM&T and InfiniteEarth announce the approval of the first ever methodology for the reduction of emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD) under the Voluntary Carbon Standard programme, the leading international standard for voluntary emission reduction credits.

2011

Due to the continued success and ongoing expansion of GM&T's business, in particular the growth in the number of employees, the Headquarters moved to a new office in central London located next to the beautiful open spaces of Regent's Park.

GM&T published its financial results and despite the fact that 2011 was a challenging year with significant price falls across most commodities, the GM&T business flourished as we seized new opportunities to add value for Gazprom and our customers.

We delivered our 100th LNG cargo in December 2011 - placing Gazprom Marketing & Trading firmly on the map as a major player in the fast-growing LNG trading business.

GM&T Singapore (GM&TS) signed a framework agreement for long term LNG supply with GAIL (India). Negotiating a long term supply agreement is a significant milestone for both GAIL and GM&TS extending their well being established LNG trading relationships.

2012

Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T) and Dynagas celebrated the naming of LNG vessel Ob River at the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore during the planned dry docking of the vessel. She has been named after the Ob River - one of the three great Siberian rivers that flow into the Arctic Ocean.
 
GM&T signed a three year energy partnership deal with Chelsea Football Club (CFC) - becoming the club's official Global Energy Partner, exclusively supplying gas and power to Chelsea's training facility at Cobham and the Stamford Bridge Stadium.
 
In November 2012 the LNG Carrier 'Ob River' chartered by the Gazprom Marketing & Trading Group conducted the world's first LNG vessel passage through the Northern Sea Route.
 
Gazprom Marketing & Trading Switzerland opened for business on February 1st 2012 aiming to support Gazprom's international development strategy - the Swiss office is located against the Alpine setting of Zug.
