Marubeni Corporation
The global carbon market presents huge opportunities for GM&T. In February 2008 we announced the conclusion of our first Russian/Japanese transaction of forward delivered carbon credits (Certified Emissions Reduction units: CERs) under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol with Marubeni Corporation.
This highly significant deal represents the first Gazprom carbon deal with a major downstream customer, creating a strong platform for further cooperation.
Marubeni and GM&T have also agreed in principle to conduct a feasibility study to develop jointly a number of shared implementation projects focused on emission reduction and energy efficiency. In addition we will explore the introduction of Gazprom's proprietary automatic meter reading technology in the Japanese market.
